Protesting the latest attempt of blaming the students only for the recent vandalism across the country, many students and teachers of the different public universities yesterday urged the government to give exemplary punishment of those responsible.
Referring to the apologies of the two detained Dhaka University teachers to the members of the Bangladesh Army for the attack on army personnel and their vehicle they said, since the willful sinners intentionally attempted to make conflicts among the people and the patriot army, they must be punished ignoring their appeal to pardon.
An assistant professor in the International Relations Department of Jahangirnagar University said, ‘‘We should not think ourselves above law and if we committed any anti-state activities, we must get proper punishment according to the law of the country.’’
Accusing the two detained professor of mobilizing the hundreds student against the law enforcers violating the emergency power law misusing their emotion he said, they certainly committed an ‘unpardonable’ offense.
If the government shows soft corner for the ringleaders of the recent violence following a silly incident in the playground of the Dhaka University, such incident would never stop, he observed.
He however, suggested the law enforcing agencies not to harass any innocent teachers, students or any one in this regard.
Another young teacher of Peace and Conflict Studies Department of Dhaka University on condition of anonymity also voiced in favor of giving punishment if the allegation against them are properly proved.
As a member of the teachers community, I feel very shame for the alleged involvement of some teachers in the recent destructive activities across the country.
While taking to The New Nation, many general students also suspect the incident as a fully pre-planned and a part of deadly conspiracy against the sovereignty and the patriot Armed Forces of the country.
They also believe that some greedy and partisan teachers along with corrupt politicians and terrorist student leaders are the main responsible of the whole incident.
They openly attempted to violate the Emergency Power Law and destabilize the government misguiding the thousands general students.
They urged the government to immediately find out the hatred conspirators of the deadly conspiracy against the whole nation and the patriot Armed Forces of Bangladesh.
They definitely committed an unpardonable offense which is suffering the thousands innocent students of different educational institutions.
‘‘I demanded the exemplary punishment of the conspirators whoever they are. They may be the teachers, student leaders or even some media personnel’’ Tahmina Khatun, a final year student in Social Science Faculty of Dhaka University angrily said mentioning her dissatisfaction over the whole incident which is delaying their honors final year examination.
Only expressing sorry even begging apologies to the members of the Armed forces is not enough. They should be punished for the greater interests of the peaceful students, teachers and peace loving people of Bangladesh, she further said.
